Meet the Team
All of the doctors you see at Croydon Orthodontics are specialist orthodontists and members of the Australian Society of Orthodontics (ASO).Orthodontists are dentists that have completed a further three years of full time training at an accredited university.
The approachable Dr Emily heads Croydon Orthodontics.
After graduating as a dentist from Adelaide University, Emily enjoyed an inspiring first year, working as a general dentist in Hervey Bay for Queensland Health.
She then moved to London for several years, working as a Senior House Officer in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Guys, Kings and St Thomas’s Hospital Emily completed the UK equivalent of the Royal Australia College of Dental Surgeons primary examinations during her time at Guy’s (MFDS), which meant ‘I saw more of the inside of a textbook than of Europe’ but helped her to gain a place in the highly regarded postgraduate orthodontic program at Melbourne University.
Emily completed the three year postgraduate doctorate program in Orthodontics at the University of Melbourne in 2008. Emily finds being an Orthodontist very rewarding.
‘Personally I get great pleasure in finding more efficient ways to achieve an even better results. Part of this is getting to know my patients well, and therefore being able to tailor aspects of their treatment better to them.’
In her time outside of work Emily can be found outdoors, exploring the Victoria markets or visiting friends, probably with her toy poodle Tina tucked under her arm.
Dr David Mastroianni graduated 2003 from Sydney University with a First Class Honours degree in Dentistry. He went on to complete the Primary Examinations for the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons, receiving commendations in all subjects before undertaking his postgraduate doctorate degree in Orthodontics at Melbourne University in 2007.
David enjoys maintaining an up-to-the minute knowledge of current practices in orthodontics, particularly in the area of technology. Equally he enjoys the daily interactions with his patients and their families. He is approachable, and likes to explain all aspects of treatment with his patients.
“I probably take the continuity of care a little too seriously,” he says. “Watching patients from their younger years, through adolescence to early adulthood is the most satisfying part of the job. It’s really enjoyable to see photos of patients at the completion of their treatment.”
Outside of work, David enjoys running and cooking.
He also enjoys football and motorsport.
Dr Cary Chien graduated from the University of Otago in 2003 with Bachelor of Dental Surgery with credit. He successfully completed the Royal Australasian College of Dental Surgeons primary examinations with five commendations in 2008.
He completed specialist orthodontic training at the University of Melbourne in 2013 and obtained a Doctorate in Clinical Dentistry. Following graduation, he completed fellowship training in craniofacial orthodontics at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada in 2015.
In his spare time, Dr. Cary enjoys cooking, skiing, internet memes and trying to reason with his disobedient dog.

Ashleigh Gargano
Ashleigh is an Oral Health Therapist who has been a part of the Croydon Orthodontics team since early 2016. Ashleigh completed a Bachelor of Oral Health at Melbourne University in 2013. Since graduating she has gained experience working in both public community dental clinics and specialist orthodontic clinics.
Ashleigh started her career working in community general dental, but has discovered that her true passion lies in the orthodontic world. She loves working with both children and adults to help create beautiful smiles.
Having undergone orthodontic treatment as a teenager she understands the positive effects that a great smile can have on an individual’s confidence and self- esteem.
Outside of the dental clinic Ashleigh loves discovering awesome brunch spots with her husband Alex, cooking up large feasts for family and friends and cuddling with her cheeky cavoodle Evie.
Tracy Nguyen
Tracy completed her Bachelor of Oral Health Science at La Trobe University in 2013. Since graduating Tracy has gained vast experience from working at the Royal Melbourne Dental Hospital, general private dental clinics, correctional dental clinics and specialists orthodontic clinics. She enjoys working with patients of all ages and being a part of their dental journey.
Tracy has been working in the wonderful world of orthodontics for over 5 years, and continues to enjoy the intricacies around orthodontics and the smiles from patients when their braces are off! Outside of work, Tracy loves spending time with her partner Jacob, finding new activities and places to visit with their fur baby Kelpie Milo.
Rubab (Rubes) Batool
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Oral Health from the university of Melbourne she has adored meeting and working with children and their families across metropolitan and country Victoria. She is now thrilled to pursue her interest in working in Orthodontics.
Outside of work she enjoys sharing her love of food, film and exploration in all their forms with family and friends.
